Student Agreement

This agreement applies to students who offer work on Cougar Hire, in addition to the Terms of Service. You accepted the key points (18 or older, independent contractor) when you created your account; we recorded the date and time.

1. Eligibility

  • You are 18 or older and a current BYU student, and the student ID you submit is your own and current.
  • Your application, including your photo and student ID, is accurate. We approve every student personally and may decline or remove anyone.

2. Independent contractor

  • You are an independent contractor, not an employee of Cougar Hire or of any customer.
  • You choose which jobs to quote, set your own prices, and decide how to do the work.
  • You are responsible for your own taxes and for any insurance you choose to carry.

3. Labor only: tools and vehicles

  • You provide labor only. Customers supply all tools, equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
  • You never drive a customer's vehicle or your own vehicle for a job, including to haul items for a customer.
  • Don't accept work outside the allowed categories: hauling or junk removal; anything requiring a student's vehicle; licensed work (electrical, plumbing, gas); childcare; elder care; pet sitting.
  • If a job isn't what was described or feels unsafe, you can decline it. Tell the customer and let us know.

4. Quotes, payment, and completion

  • Your quote is what the customer pays you, directly, after the job. Cougar Hire doesn't currently take a fee; if that changes we'll tell you before it applies.
  • Keep contact and payment arrangements on Cougar Hire until a quote is accepted. Messages sharing phone numbers, emails, or payment apps before then aren't delivered and are logged.
  • Mark the job complete when you finish. The customer confirms or reports a problem.

5. Cancellations and strikes

  • If you cancel a booked job, you receive a strike. At 2 strikes your account is automatically suspended until an admin reviews it.
  • No-shows and serious problems reported by customers may also result in strikes or removal.

6. Conduct and reviews

Be on time, be respectful, and take care of customers' homes and belongings. Customers review you after each job, and you review them.
